We all seek to be happy in our lives but the vast majority of people do not really know how to find happiness. What most people do not know is that we all do have a huge amount of happiness within us waiting to burst through.
A huge chunk of our happiness is within us, only a small proportion is derived from without. I agree that external factors do contribute to our happiness but how about adopting some simple strategies that can allow some free flow of happiness into your life today.
1. Adopt a Forgiveness Attitude.
If you want to be happy, you have to learn to forgive. If you don't forgive others who may have rightly or wrongly offended you in the past, you end up with a psychological weight that you carry along with you every day of your life. This gets worse anytime you run into the individual(s) that caused you this grief.
Let bygones be bygone. The act of forgiveness is to a large extent liberating and you will feel happier for it. Also be poised to forgive yourself as well for errors of the yesterday. We all make mistakes in life. You should learn from your past mistakes and your life will be richer for it.
2. Being Too Critical of Yourself Is Not The Way Forward.
No one is perfect. Yes, there are some aspects of you that you don't quite like in your opinion. You may not like your height, the shape of your legs or arms but what you probably don't know is, that feature you hate about yourself, someone else appreciates.
In any case, instead of being too critical of yourself and hating those things about yourself you know you cannot change, doesn't it make sense to look inwards and accept yourself for what you are? You never know, that feature may work out to be an advantage some day in future. So develop the habit of liking yourself if you want to find happiness.
3. Trying To Please Everyone Is Impossible.
In your quest on how to find happiness, you have to learn one lesson in lifeand the lesson is You cannot please everyone all of the time'. It's simple. Some people will find faults no matter what you do and how hard you try.
Do what you think is right and leave the rest to history to judge. Just trying to please everyone all of the time is more likely to fetch you bags of frustration than provide you with a bounty of happiness because of human nature.
4. Consider Others.
If you know how to find happiness, you will realize that concentrating your thoughts about your being can actually be counter-productive. We are usually of the impression that, we will be a lot happier if we channel all our energies into satisfying our needs but that is not entirely true.
What happens in reality is that the more you think of yourself, the higher the chances of finding something that will disappoint you.
5. Dump Jealousy.
Keeping up with the Joneses is one aspect of modern day life that has contributed in no small way to unhappiness in our society. Whilst it is a good idea to have some sort of competitive edge that energises us to realize our full potential, we should strive to avoid comparing ourselves rigidly.
This is because such comparison is likely to lead to jealousy. You might begin to see yourself as an under-achiever when you are hooked on comparison all the time, even when you are not.
You have to realize that we all have our own unique abilities and your call in life is to squeeze the best out of your natural potential and let others do the same with theirs. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Run yours, let others run theirs.
